Although this guitar was unveiled a while ago at MusikMesse 2010, the Ibanez JEM FP2 sees the floral pattern evolved from its original design with a very striking Japanese looking design. Ibanez Guitars have launched a microsite specifically for their Prestige range including the latest RGD and RGA ranges. I’m not exactly sure why they have done this after all the Prestige range is just the “normal” ranges made in Japan rather than the cheap ranges made in Indonesia, it’s not like it is the custom shop (try even searching for J-Custom’s on Google and you don’t even get a link to a site in the first few pages). What is even more confusing is that if you use the top

Chickenfoot have had a massive year since their debut album was released back in July of 2009. Since the release Chickenfoot have been touring the US and Europe and sadly not Australia even though Joe always comes to Aus on his solo tours, I guess he couldn’t convince Sammy. Anyway while on tour Chickenfoot managed to get a film crew in with 16 high definition cameras over the course of three sold out nights at Dodge Theatre, Phoenix, Arizona. The HD recording looks amazing on DVD, I can only
This week I received my new Suhr S4 after an agonising 4 month wait for it to be built and boy was it worth the wait. I chose to go with the S4 because I wanted a combination of classic Stratocaster looks and tonal capabilities but with a humbucker in the bridge for added versatility. I also wanted a Maple fretboard as I already have 2 Rosewood fretboard guitars, the S4 has a beautiful 1 piece Maple neck with a skunk stripe that is absolutely flawless and it’s 10 - 14” radius and angled heel
Steve Vai has posted the exciting news on his website that he is going to release previously unreleased recordings that have been sat on his virtual shelf for years ... It’s not uncommon for a musician to record more work than they release. In my case I have a digital ocean of snippets in various degrees of completion. Some are leftovers from assorted project recording sessions, projects that were never completed, sound check jams, demo snippets, etc ... with the advent of all this digital
For a small population Australia has a pretty good share of the guitar blog market and Lone Phantom seems to slipping under the radar for a lot of people which is a shame because it has some great reviews and gear talk. Also it is run by someone in a very similar situation to myself, a professional Web Developer living in Australia passionate about guitars. I want to mention something that was posted recently that particularly caught my eye which was a post about modifying pickups. Now I’m the
I’ve owned my Genz Benz Black Pearl 30 112 Combo Amp for quite a while now so this demo is well overdue but seeing as I had the excellent Audix CabGrabber in place holding an Audix i5 Microphone I thought what better time! ... The Black Pearl is a single channel Class A tube amp loaded with 5 12AX7 preamp tubes, 4 EL84 power tubes and a tube rectifier. It has a tube boost which is footswitchable and has its own level control so this can almost be thought of as a lead channel. It has a Passive
Well, well, well, hasn’t NAMM 2010 seen some interesting releases this year and Ibanez clearly want to regain some of the tube amp market with this 15 Watt Head which features 2 12AX7 Preamp tubes and 2 6V6 Power Amp tubes. The amp is switchable between Pentode and Triode mode which change the output from 15 Watt to 5 Watt respectively. There is also a genuine Ibanez Tube Screamer circuit built into the front end which is footswitchable. I think this is an interesting idea and I’d like to
Ibanez have just posted this video on their Official YouTube Channel to coincide with the release of the Ibanez JS2400 at Winter NAMM 2010. Joe explains how Ibanez worked with him to create a cutaway that was aesthetically pleasing but gave complete access to the 24th fret and how he worked with Steve Blucher and Larry DiMarzio to select a single coil sized Humbucker that would retain the tonal qualities of the JS Series and compliment the Mo Joe. The Pickup that Joe and the Dimarzio guys
