When creating a jazz guitar chord melody arrangement we want to pick a chord that has the melody note as the highest note. But rather than use the stock chord changes from a lead sheet, we can often add more chords or substitute existing chords for new chords. This free online Chord Substitution Generator will [ ... ] ...
I decided to buy a couple of V-Picks after Guitar Noize’s very own Paul Davies recommended them, check out his post The Amazing V-Pick. I bought a Small Pointed and Medium Pointed V-Pick and they were kind enough to send another couple of picks for the review, the Medium Ultra Light and Medium Rounded. I have recorded the video above to illustrate the difference in tone between the picks. All of the picks have a nice fat tone especially the thicker picks, I am used to very thin picks so it
Sound Proof (Greg Howe ‘Sound Proof’) ... Greg is really, really good on this album. I really enjoy his playing and he’s actually got some great videos up on his website you should check out where he makes everything look so freakishly easy. There’s some brilliant stuff all over the record but possibly the pick is the title track. Sometimes it’s Vai territory, then it’s Return To Forever, then it’s over to Stevie Wonder… there’s a bit of everything for all! ... Off the One

I first heard of Red Bear guitar picks over at GuitarGear.org and I remember thinking who on earth would pay $20 for a guitar pick. Well in my never ending quest for the perfect guitar pick I finally succumbed to the nagging urge, I mean for $20 it has to be good right? I checked out their website and noticed that Guthrie Govan uses a Red Bear Big Jazzer Heavy pick and that was it, sold. I bought 2, just in case I lost one! I ordered the exact same pick shown on the Red Bear homepage with the
Most beginners pick up the guitar because they want to learn a song, or songs. Songs of course are made up of chords so students want to learn to play chords as quickly as possible. The tough part is that chords aren’t the easiest things to play on the guitar, and they can frustrate a [ ... ] ...
Misterio (Al Di Meola ‘The Grande Passion’) ... Misterio is awe-inspiring. Al Di is awe-inspiring. He seems so rejuvenated with such incredible inspiration at this point in his career. Double Concerto, Al’s interpretation of the Astor Piazzolla composition is absolutely astonishing and quite possibly the most expressive thing I’ve ever heard in my life. The way that piece builds is head-shakingly good, a lesson in composition to say the least ... For me, this was the album where Al Di
The Deception of the Thrush (ProjeKct Four ‘King Crimson The ProjeKcts’) ... Having been fortunate enough to have witnessed a mesmerizing live performance of this piece I can honestly say there’s nothing quite like it. Absolutely astonishing, jaw dropping, emotive, colourful art at it’s very best. There isn’t a single riff, hook or pentatonic lick in sight. When I watch the Crimson boys improvise I recognize just how far from greatness I am. The Deception of the Thrush won’t gather
