“Maybe it was inspired by YouTube, the way you can spend an hour on there and see clips of every amazing guitar player under the sun ... it just occured to me how great it would be to be able to hear a whole bunch of today’s greatest guitarists doing their thing on one album.” - Lee Ritenour on the making of 6 String Theory ... I expect most people aren’t that impressed to hear that B.B. King, Joe Bonamassa and Guthrie Govan all guested on an album because these days that process can be
The Goosoniqueworx Seventhheaven Distortion pedal is an incredibly versatile pedal as you will see and hear in the demo above, when I saw the words High Gain distortion on the Goosoniqueworx website I’m afraid I foolishly assumed that this would be a one trick pony but I was very wrong. There are lots of knobs and switches but don’t let that scare you off it is very simple, normally a distortion pedal has a tone knob, well the Seventhheaven has a 3 band EQ so 3 of those knobs are for treble,
Somehow IK Multimedia have managed to squeeze Amplitube into an iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad app, the iPad is not so surprising but imagine using your iPhone or iPod Touch as a headphone amp using Amplitube modelling! Looks very cool from the trailer above, they have optimised the interface so that it is actually useable in such a small space, nice work ... AmpliTube iRig is a combination of an easy-to-use instrument interface adapter for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad mobile devices, and the new
I decided to buy a couple of V-Picks after Guitar Noize’s very own Paul Davies recommended them, check out his post The Amazing V-Pick. I bought a Small Pointed and Medium Pointed V-Pick and they were kind enough to send another couple of picks for the review, the Medium Ultra Light and Medium Rounded. I have recorded the video above to illustrate the difference in tone between the picks. All of the picks have a nice fat tone especially the thicker picks, I am used to very thin picks so it
Only at the Nashville Earth Day Festival, held in the city’s Centennial Park (complete with its own Parthenon) would we find a bass guitar made from melted and molded plastic bags. This is the best usage I have seen of plastic bags yet. It’s actually an art project by a Metro Nashville student for the Trash [ ... ] ...
I get a lot of emails about how to get a good blues or slide guitar tone ... A lot of the questions are valid and that’s probably what I would ask as well, but these questions don’t have answers that are yes and no.Best Settings?Sample question – “What do I set the Bass, Treble, [ ... ] ...
Chickenfoot have had a massive year since their debut album was released back in July of 2009. Since the release Chickenfoot have been touring the US and Europe and sadly not Australia even though Joe always comes to Aus on his solo tours, I guess he couldn’t convince Sammy. Anyway while on tour Chickenfoot managed to get a film crew in with 16 high definition cameras over the course of three sold out nights at Dodge Theatre, Phoenix, Arizona. The HD recording looks amazing on DVD, I can only
Steve Vai has posted the exciting news on his website that he is going to release previously unreleased recordings that have been sat on his virtual shelf for years ... It’s not uncommon for a musician to record more work than they release. In my case I have a digital ocean of snippets in various degrees of completion. Some are leftovers from assorted project recording sessions, projects that were never completed, sound check jams, demo snippets, etc ... with the advent of all this digital
Nadia (Jeff Beck ‘You Had It Coming’) ... This is a cover of Nitin Sawhney’s beautiful track from the 1999 album Beyond Skin. Nitin Sawhney is definitely one of my favourite artists, I adore his work. And in fact he’s one very, very fine guitar player too and he nearly made it in to one of the earlier 5s. Anyway, I should get back to Jeff! The melody in the original is an incredible and heavenly vocal. Frankly Jeff Beck does an astonishing job of capturing that vocal on a guitar. Until I
Innamorata (Al Di Meola ‘Flesh on Flesh’) ... After the incredible 2000 release, The Grande Passion, what more could Al Di do? That’s right, more of the same! And when it’s music as stunningly moving as this I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with an expansion of more-of-the-same. The video clip is from what is personally the best live DVD I’ve ever seen, One of The Nights. The band walk on, tune up and open with this track. Can you imagine opening a concert with this?! Talk about
